About this tool
Temperature scales have different zero points, so conversion uses formulas instead of a single multiplier: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9, °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. The scales cross at −40°, where Fahrenheit and Celsius are equal. Kelvin and Rankine are absolute scales that start at absolute zero, so they never go negative.
| Reference | °F | °C |
|---|---|---|
| Water freezes | 32 | 0 |
| Room temperature | 68–72 | 20–22 |
| Body temperature | 98.6 | 37 |
| Water boils (sea level) | 212 | 100 |
| Moderate oven | 350 | 177 |
