About this tool
Each flip is an independent 50/50 draw from crypto.getRandomValues(). A real coin is very slightly biased toward the side facing up when flipped (about 51%, according to a 2023 study of 350,757 flips), so a virtual coin is actually fairer. Do not expect a perfect 50/50 split in a small number of flips: in 10 flips, getting 7 or more of one side happens about 34% of the time.
Frequently asked questions
Is a virtual coin flip really 50/50?
Yes. Each flip uses unbiased secure randomness, and the previous flip has no effect on the next.
After 5 heads in a row, is tails more likely?
No. That is the gambler’s fallacy. Each flip is still exactly 50/50.
How do I settle a decision with three options?
Use the dice roller (d3 or d6) or the wheel spinner instead.
