- Choose line, word or character view to see the highlighted differences
About this tool
Diff tools are how developers review code changes, but they help anyone comparing contract drafts, essay revisions or configuration files. Additions are highlighted in green and removals in red. The line view works best for code and lists, the word view for prose, and the character view for spotting a single typo.
Comparison uses the open-source jsdiff library (Myers’ algorithm), the same approach used by Git.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded to compare it?
No. Many online diff tools send both texts to a server. This one runs completely in your browser, so it is safe for confidential documents.
Can I ignore whitespace changes?
Yes. Turn on “Ignore whitespace” and changes in spaces or indentation are not shown.
How big can the texts be?
Line diffs handle tens of thousands of lines quickly. Character diffs on very large texts can be slow, so use line or word mode for big files.
