About this tool
MPG and km/L measure distance per fuel (higher is better), while L/100 km measures fuel per distance (lower is better). Converting between them uses the reciprocal: L/100 km = 235.215 ÷ US mpg (or 282.481 ÷ UK mpg). Because of that, mpg gains are not linear. Going from 15 to 20 mpg saves more fuel than going from 40 to 50 mpg.
Frequently asked questions
What is 30 mpg in L/100 km?
7.84 L/100 km (US gallons).
Why do UK and US mpg differ?
The UK uses the larger imperial gallon (4.546 L vs 3.785 L), so the same car shows a higher mpg figure in the UK.
What does 0 mpg convert to?
It is undefined (infinite consumption), so the converter shows a dash.
